Road Ahead contract just a campaign tool

3 min read

To the editor:

On Sept. 9 and 12 a letter was published by Mr. Gary King, aka The Road Ahead, in both local papers in response to my letter of Sept. 5, published only in the Cape Coral Breeze at the time of this writing. Obviously Mr. King is enamored with my family name since it appeared 11 times in his response. As for his labeling my letter a “vitriolic diatribe” that’s his opinion which is typically devoid of fact.

The main problem with The Road Ahead, John Sullivan and others, who wrote and or signed this as a campaign tool, is that it uses the country’s economic condition to prey on the needy and vulnerable people. It cries to them, it cries with them, but offers no solutions, no real hope, just empty promises. It has no substance, but unfortunately their followers will not realize this until after they are in office and cannot improve the situation. It is akin to them believing that two of their roadies were going to change things after being elected two years ago. They were elected and have done nothing to improve our city in their two years in office. The wrecking ball mentality for change will only negatively compound the city’s economic future for the majority of residents. “History is a great teacher.” We have seen this sort of strategy for political gain used before on the world’s stage.

It has also been said that “misery loves company,” but we need more than solace. We need help and we need a plan of transition that can cope with the down turn and the current signs of hopefully the up tick in our economy that is beginning to show signs of recovery. We don’t need the wrecking ball that the Road candidates have promised. We don’t need candidates who are clueless about governing within city, state and federal laws.

In his response to me King claims; “the Contract” does not disparage any individuals nor does it promote subversion” Oh really? “The Contract”, Tenet 1, states; “We make the commitment to bring a positive change in the direction of the city, by putting an end to the manipulating and deceptive practices used by the administration to sway public opinion.” He accuses the administration headed by Mr. Stewart of deception and manipulation. Yet he has the nerve to say he hasn’t “disparaged any individuals.” I also believe this tenet is based on a false premise, ergo it is totally illogical.

In his response he repeatedly pats himself on the back for his presentation to council. All well and good but you, Gary King, are not a candidate. Most people I know see you as the puppet master, the man behind the shadow government. As for the presentations to council he mentions, most of them were debunked by people far more knowledgeable and infinitely more involved with facts.

The Road promises to vote as a bloc with an agenda that predisposes any information from administration, deliberation of the issues and public input. I would much rather believe that our citizens are far more interested in electing representatives who deliberate the issues and think for themselves. The Road candidates obviously do not.

At the SWNA candidate’s forum on Wednesday, Sept. 16, a Road candidate in District 1 proclaimed, “The Road Ahead is one person and an e-mail list of several hundred people.” The e-mail origin for the road is none other than “Gary King”.

Vote against “The Road” and a pseudo government.
