Keep the lines of communication open
To the editor:
Mark your calenders for Wednesday, Sept. 23, 5 p.m. Cape Coral City Hall for the final public hearing regarding the city budget. A city council meeting is also scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21, at 4:30 p.m. Not sure what’s on the agenda for that date. If you can’t attend, please watch channel 98 if you have Comcast.
Talking about channel 98, did you know that due to budget restraints, you may not be able to watch the upcoming election debates? What a shame!
Keeping important information away, from us, the residents and voters of Cape Coral. Don’t they want us to be informed voters? Saving money by not airing the debates, yet spending our hard-earned money by providing about 23 “company vehicles” to highly compensated city officials. What’s right about that picture? I see no reason why we should supply the city manager and others with company vehicles. They’re already making more than $100,l000 per year. Let’s start by cutting out the perks.
This city has too many chiefs, and not enough Indians. Unfortunately, the Indians are dispensable because they lack power. While many of us are on a fixed income, or unemployed, eating Hamburger Helper and barely hanging on, some city officials are driving company vehicles and looking pretty. Others are still getting paid overtime, while many of us are looking for a job? Let’s cut the overtime. How many millions could this city save?
Obviously some council members have been persuaded or they don’t think that they can cut any more fat from the budget. What a shame! If you think you can’t, you won’t! Quite frankly, I can’t cut any more fat from my budget either. I’m already robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Let’s send city hall a message: Keep channel 98 intact as is. I’m sure if council looks hard enough and long enough, they can find money to balance the budget, without taking away our/your communication with the city. Call or email your representatives, let them know how you feel.
