KC’s a Cape icon
To the editor:
As one of the thousands of snowbirds who flock to their Cape Coral homes in the fall, I recently heard from a friend that the city council is trying to pull an “end-run” to change ownership at KC’s Riverstop. With football season in full swing, I have to call a “personal foul” on the city council.
The friend I mentioned was one of the many I made at KC’s since purchasing my home two years ago. My wife and I spend many days relaxing there, meeting new friends and chatting with the folks who work there – especially Betty, one of the owners – who goes out of her way to make KC’s patrons feel like a little family.
While I’m not quite sure I have the status of sitting at “Table 4” with the everyday regulars, I’m often invited to sit down and listen to tons of stories about their experiences at KC’s over the years with Betty. I was actually there one day when she played nursemaid to someone who was stung by a stingray!
At a time when most people are concerned only about themselves, it’s nice to see a small business owner who knows the importance of providing a personal touch – one that is truly heartfelt.
It’s not just the economy forcing businesses to close, it’s owners and how they manage their business and customer relationships. I believe that’s why KC’s has endured, and will continue to endure.
I’m not sure what’s going on between the city council and KC’s, but I’d suggest they leave well enough alone and concentrate on some of the larger issues that need their attention.
As far as I’m concerned, if KC’s was a football team, it would be headed for the Super Bowl.
