Decision to not air president’s speech live mishandled

To the editor:

I have reviewed the superintendent’s decision on the President’s speech and wish to express my dismay at the way this matter was handled.

The superintendent did not seek the advice of the School Board members. If I had been asked, I would have advised the superintendent to allow the children to hear the President’s speech and to give the opportunity to opt out to those parents who did not want their children to watch the speech.

The community is clearly divided on this issue, and we, as a School Board, have an obligation to the community and our children to lead by example and fulfill our elected duties to the public we represent.
