Elderly dog needs her owners

This "sweet old girl" was found in Cape Coral running along Santa Barbara Boulevard. She's being cared for while her owners are sought.

To the editor:

I am desperately seeking help in finding the owners of a precious 18 year old dog. Here’s my story.

Sixteen years ago I found a stray puppy in my neighborhood. I brought her to my vet and had her spayed, shots and a chip inserted with my information. At the time I was not able to keep the puppy. I ran an ad and found a home for her and asked the new owners to change over the chip information.

On Sept. 3, I received a call from Animal Control saying they had my dog. I hadn’t seen or heard a peep for 18 years. I was told that two boys found her running down Santa Barbara, they thought she had been hit by a car, and they took her to the police department when Animal Services were called.

I picked her up from Animal Control. At 18 years of age she shouldn’t be spending her last days there. Animal Control refused to keep her picture on their Web site and stated that if the owners were to come forward, there would be no way for them to know that I had her. I’m very troubled by this because I know the owners are looking for her.

She is a sweet old girl who has been well taken care of. She has a scar on her back leg which tells me she has had knee surgery (a very expensive procedure) it also appears that she has had a dental recently. Someone has really taken good care of this dog.

So far I have run a found ad in the News Press. They posted the found ad in the wrong area of the paper. It is not with the lost dogs ads where it should be. I’ve listed her found on Craig’s List and Fido Find, with no response. I’ve sent flyers to all the vets in Cape and Lee. I put up posters all around the Santa Barbara and Nicolas Parkway.

Because she was found in Cape Coral, I would like so desperately to do an article on this and hope and pray the owners are found. This old girl should be in there care when the time comes to say goodbye to her. I am heart broken that no one has come forward and am asking, from my heart, that you help. I have attached a picture of her for your viewing.

Please consider running her story. If not for the chip with my information, this little girl probably would have died in a kennel at animal control.

You can google my name and find out more about who I am. I’m known in the community as an animal lover, volunteer victim advocate and I really care about people and animals.
