Sullivan for mayor
To the editor:
I will be voting for John Sullivan for mayor in the upcoming election. John and five other people have all signed a document called the “Contract with Cape Coral” which you can read about by visiting John’s Web site at: www.johnsullformayor.com/. That contract says that if elected, those people will “Reform The City Administration” by putting an end to the deceptive practices used by the administration to sway public opinion as they did when they wanted to spend $110 million for a Public Safety Building which ultimately cost about $30 million after voters said NO; they will also “Reduce Excessive Spending” to the levels we had back in 2005 without jeopardizing the safety of the people; they will “Restore Public Trust” which according to polls is the lowest it has ever been since they stated polling; they will “Make the City truly Commercial Business Friendly” so that businesses will flourish and jobs will be created for our residents; they will “Develop A Comprehensive Plan/Vision For Cape Coral At Build Out” so that our city will grow in a sensible cost effective manner which will not tax us out of our homes and finally they will “Complete a Forensic Audit” of the Sewer & Water expansion program to make sure the citizens were not over charged for the work that was done.
To learn more about this “Contract” before you vote, and to see and hear short videos of City Council meetings where lots of bad things were allowed to happen, I urge you to visit John’s Web site.
Because of the fiscal mismanagement of our city, our Bond credit rating has been reduced to one level above “junk” by Fitch, a major bond rating agency. A recent city audit also disclosed we insure more motor vehicles than what we actually have, and not withstanding statements to the contrary, we built a water plant and other facilities we do not need now and will not need for years to come. And many of us will be paying huge increases in our real estate taxes next year and our water and sewer bills will be going up by 92 percent over the next few years. It is time for a change. Vote for less spending, lower taxes and fees, and smaller government.
