Former mayor treated rudely

1 min read

To the editor:

Former Mayor Arnold Kempe was rudely chased off the microphone at Monday evening’s Council Meeting (8/31/09) during the Citizen’s Input Time by the current Mayor. Mr. Kempe has a plan to alleviate the debt ($140 million) on the new unneeded water plant on Kismet Parkway and he was attempting to outline his plan.

However, he was unable to complete his presentation when he was ordered to stop.

Mr. Kempe has unselfishly served our country as a Marine and our city as a mayor.

Mr. Burch’s treatment of him was both embarrassing and despicable.

Mr. Kempe should have been permitted to finish explaining his solution to this astronomical approximate $140 million debt problem. A few minutes more allotted for this would have been negligible compared to the almost 60 minutes of “Council craziness” that followed regarding the $814,000 contract with Lee County for stray animal control.

Mr. Burch, you need to get your priorities in order. You, and really all of us, should render honor unto whom honor is due.

Thank you, Arnold Kempe, for your life of service to us.
