Change needed
To the editor:
Open note to Cape residents:
I have been out of town for about two weeks but in touch and in turn with this city. Can you say the same – in touch and in tune with this city?
It appears this city needs a good shake-up. If in fact, we city residents accept all of Mr. Mason’s thinking and thoughts as they relate to the relationship of council to city staff aka administration and vice versa. “Why do we need so many managers, assistant managers, supervisors and assistant supervisors?”
Mr. Mason believes that he cannot move nor think unless the council tells the city manager to instruct him to do something. With this type of arrangement in Mr. Mason’s mind there is no reason to be paying him the kinds of dollars he gets, a three-year experienced accountant will do just fine and possibly better.
It is time for the council to take charge. Or since the council has waited this long it is possible for this city to wait to Nov. 3, and have installed four new councilmembers. This is what this city needs as a starting point.
Frustrated yes. Displeasured yes. Unfortunately, some members of council are not and definitely many in the administration are not, even though some live on the Cape.
Residents, pick up a copy of “Contract with Cape Coral.”
If we as residents do not take action now, we will lose our city to those on council and in the administration that are totally uninterested and believe their jobs and positions and who-they-know will take care of them. They will not.
Attend council meetings especially Aug. 31. Vote in the primary on Sept. 15. Vote in the election on Nov. 3.
