Tax proposals out of touch with reality
To the editor:
How short is a politician’s memory? Didn’t we recently vote, overwhelmingly, to cut taxes? What’s with this group of lost memories, calling themselves the Cape City Council?
An 85 percent tax hike to support parks? (What parks?) Also, to support road maintenance, which we haven’t had since the Spanish-American War. Ludicrous is a vast understatement.
How about a 3 percent reduction in all city salaries (including the above worthies?)
Some of the county is also in the same fog. Namely, the school board and various fire districts. I realize that 25 percent of our populace is oblivious to the recession that is killing most of us, but surely they can read the papers and hear of our current situation on TV news.
What will it take to wake these folks up? Throwing them out of office doesn’t seem to be effective, as their successors will likely also be in someone’s pocket (and aiming at yours).
