Time to clean house

After one week the “Here we go again” Cape Coral city council is at it again. Like a group of small children in a candy store, they can’t make up their minds.
I have lived in Cape Coral for over 40 years and consider myself a pioneer here. I have also owned a business in this city for 40 years. I have heard and seen everything.
My home in the 6-7 area sits on a four-lot site. My upfront cash cost will be over $36,000. If I take the 10-year deferment plan with the “out of this world” interest rate, my cost will be over $60,000.
Although life has been good here, I never got wealthy and now in this slow economy, things are going downhill fast.
We must stop the UEP at this time for at least two years. No one can handle it in this recession. The city, lead by council woman Dolores Bertolini “I paid mine, now you pay yours” shows she has a chip on her shoulder and no common sense. What an attitude.
Right along, the city manager and staff has been leading the council down a path of financial destruction, with at least four council members (like little lambs) following every word and suggestion that the manager presents. Have they heard the cry of the people? No. They just don’t listen and they just don’t get it.
In the name of progress, what is the hurry on the UEP? Oh yes, the hurry is we have to pay for that large white elephant (the new water plant). Here’s a suggestion, take it out of the salaries of the city manger, financial director, and staff that proposed building this huge mistake. The same staff that tried to start a North vs South civil war in our fair city. I do not believe that the residents who have sacrificed and paid for their utilities should have to pay a higher fee. Put the blame squarely on the city administration where it belongs and make them solve the problem or fire all of them.
As a pioneer of this city my advice and opinions to the council are:
Listen to the people. Really Listen
Forget about the words “Progress” and “We must move forward.” Slow down. Take time out.
Stop the UEP in 6-7 for at least two years
No rate increases for utilities already in
More can be done on securing grants. Do it
Take a direct approach to our present problem. Fire the city manager and financial director. I find them to be the most arrogant two people this city has ever known.
To all of the good citizens of Cape Coral: This November we must clean house. Vote out all council members and mayor who are up for re-election. They have got to go.
I myself am now offering to volunteer 100 hours of help to any candidate running for office to unseat the existing mayor and council who are up for re-election.
I hope many more Cape Coral citizens will join and bring a change that is needed in this city.
