There are other ideas out there

To the editor:

You did the right thing on July 20.

Now what in god’s name are you thinking?

Councilman Brandt asked for 45 days to allow Gary King to submit a written action plan addressing the $140 million Kismet disaster and also minimize existing ratepayers increases.

Mr. Mayor, you denied that request, saying it would take up too much of council’s time. Are you all right! Do you not realize the importance of this objective to the future of this city? You and your predecessors gave Stewart and his gang plenty of time to put us in this mess, but 45 days is wasting your time?

In my 7-19-09 correspondence to you I urged the following:

Immediately formulate a plan to address the impending bond issues.

Recognize that under Mr. Stewart’s (who now wants to sing his way onto the county commission) watch disastrous planning mistakes, overbuilding and unacceptable fees were presented to the citizenry. Those of you who voted for all this are also to blame. Stand up and do the right thing.

Utilize the voices of reason that beckon to you for just fiduciary stewardship of the citizens hard earned money, you work for them.

Look at Gary King’s seven point plan.

Look at former Mayor Kempe’s plan.

Look at Councilman Brandt’s ideas.

Look at any other sensible plans that might be submitted.

Utilize the FAC to hone these ideas, and even then ask for concerned informed citizens to work with the FAC.

PUT exacting time constraints on the above.

Well guess what, Mr. King has stepped up to the plate and the request is denied!

So then Ms. Bertolini wants to revisit all the old garbage and you go 4-2 in favor – what are you thinking, or aren’t you? One of you is terming out, the other is leaving, the incumbents are on the ropes – is this creating a short timer mentality? You still have to live here.

Clearly you underestimate the informed citizens ability to understand the dynamics behind the UEP boondoggle.

I urge you again do the right thing – give Mr. King his 45 days and let’s try to straighten this mess out.
