Say no to Sotomayor
To the editor:
The long-term goal of the enemies of freedom is the piece meal destruction of our most sacred of documents , the Constitution of the United States of America. The appointment of Sonya Sotomayor by President Obama to the Supreme Court falls right into their hands.
She signed an appellate court decision that said the Second Amendment protection from curbs on the right to bear arms applied only to federal laws and not to state or local ones. She stated at a Duke University Law School conference that the court of appeals is where policy is made. Now relate her 2005 statement at Duke to a recent three judge panel of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals (in an Illinois case) which said the right to bear arms is not an adequate basis for lawsuits attacking local gun ordinances (Chicago and suburban Oak Park). In recent hearings she refused to answer pertinent questions on the most important issues of all time; gun rights and legalized abortion.
Sonya Sotomayor has had almost 80 percent of her appellate decisions overturned. It appears that the Bill of Rights to her is nothing but a list of suggestions. In my opinion, Sotomayor has not been nominated because of her judicial temperament, or her scholarship, or her integrity; but rather because of her racial profiling; anti-white, anti-male, anti-Second Amendment rights, and anti-Bill of Rights views in her judicial writings and affiliations. If the Senate Democrats and Republicans vote onto the Supreme Court this most transparently biased jurist, then a pox on both their houses.
