Don’t buy into city’s divide-and-conquer strategy
To the editor:
This is a call to the citizens of Cape Coral. Now is not the time to fight amongst ourselves, but rather to redirect our anger toward the mismanagement and irresponsibility of our city government. Our current city council and city manager have put “we the people” between a rock and a hard place. You have those who have already paid an exorbitant amount of money for their city water and sewer who are being threatened with a rate increase if those in South West 6/7 and North 1-8 fight to keep the expansion from going through. If you think that this is an accident, think again. It is the strategy of the city to divide and conquer. The bottom line is that our local government has created this financial pandemonium and is now looking to us to fill the bill. It is unconscionable that during this present economy that anyone should have to face a 92 percent increase in their monthly water bill, and it is unthinkable that anyone should have a bill for city water and sewer that would cause them to lose their homes. It is time to send a message to the powers that be that neither option is acceptable; it is time to turn the tables and put our city government in a place of accountability. They are the ones that need to be between a rock and a hard place not us.
Responsibility is the price of greatness and we the people have a historical opportunity to change our current circumstances. I challenge all people that live and work in the Cape to take this responsibility and VOTE accordingly in this next election. If you don’t pay attention now, you won’t be able to afford it later!
