Seat belt law just more government intrusion
To the editor:
Well it didn’t take long for the latest governmental outrage to commence; the new seat belt law.
A recent news article turned my stomach as I read, “We didn’t waste anytime” enforcing the new law voiced by my darlin’, Cape Coral police spokeswoman Connie Barron.
What a travesty, sold as a safety factor to the public, and now implanted as a punitive action to do nothing more than raise revenue in our ailing economy.
I wonder if any thought has been given to the safety factor, when an officer does his concentrating on the looks of a driver rather than on how the vehicle is being operated by that driver?
Would it be considered that that officer was keeping his eye on the road while doing his or her duty? I think not. If anything that officer becomes more of a menace to all other citizens on that roadway.
Couple this one with the new dollar-a-pack tax on cigarettes, and other increases in outrageous fines and fees by an out-of-wack legislature, then there goes a few more of your freedoms.
Can’t you see it? Will you ever? Well, when the time comes to have it mandated to have you seat belted on your toilet seat and even in your coffin, don’t object, because for all sheep it is too late. The ship has sailed, and that shackle will remain on your ankle forever.
God save us all and our dear old U.S.A.
