Ghosts of decisions past

1 min read

To the editor:

At last night’s meeting at Mariner High School, Cape Coral officials stated that the $6,000 water fee would be charged to the residents in North Cape Coral. These residents have repeatedly told them that because of the economy, they could not afford this and it would probably drive them into bankruptcy.

The reply to this was that the city did not want to default on their $240 million debt as this would make the city “look bad” for years. The city refuses to even open the contract for re-bidding. Everyone knows that with the economy in the current condition, it would cause a number of much lower bids to come in.

No one wants our city to “look bad” but do they fail to realize that perhaps this project will make many of their residents “look bad?” Why must they maintain a closed mind to any suggestions? Don’t they realize that many of their previous decisions from the past make them look bad and will come back to haunt them?
