Government vested with restoring faltering economy
To the editor:
It’s incredible how some people out there just don’t understand what is going on.
The Constitution charges the government to “promote the general welfare,” which means it must take steps to restore the economy when it falters.
The president has said that he doesn’t want to be in the car business, meaning that the government won’t be. He is trying to get the car-makers back on their feet, since only the unions are willing/able to help. That’s a far cry from “nationalizing” the industry.
Also, the FDIC is only taking over banks that are failing (and there are a few), and only until a buyer can be found. That’s what the FDIC is in business for, over these many years.
The Grand Old Obfuscators love to run in circles and scream and shout (while throwing tea bags). They should be putting their collective shoulders to the wheel to help get us all out of the present economic debacle. They will sorely need some of the credit, come next year’s elections.
