Let’s be fair

To the editor:

Sadly, we have become a cynical, insensitive, judgmental, and an unappreciative society. We’re a group anxious to criticize and condemn and we revel in the pain being experienced by fellow human beings.

Factually, County Manager Don Stilwell has served as the top administrator for 15 years. During this time, Mr. Stilwell has performed with class and distinction and has helped to build and maintain a county we can all take pride in.

For this and more, a performance that has earned our applause, we choose to be insensitive to a man’s admitted error and we would rather attack, pile on,and act as if we are above making mistakes. There is no doubt that it was wrong for the county manager to view and pass on photos that were illicit. It was unprofessional and embarrassing. And, it should be considered unacceptable.

However, Mr.Stilwell knows this…he is sorry and he has apologized.

And, considering his 15 years of service, the issue should be ended. No need to pile on and absolutely no need for further recriminations.

I’ve never met Mr.Stilwell but I believe, from examining his record, that he is a good man and a person deserving of understanding, compassion, and fair play. It would serve us well to calm down, concentrate on the more important issues of the day and accept the apology. Let’s stop the meanness…it’s not a productive attitude.
