To the editor:

Have you ever attended a Cape Coral city council meeting? You need to come. I know you have a better seat at home, but like a baseball game, you’re closer to the action.

You can’t bring food or drinks, however, please don’t forget your glasses. The meetings are quite educational and entertaining. You get to meet your elected officials and city manager up close, as they struggle to make Cape Coral a better place to live for all of us. You can see the frustration in their faces and tempers flaring, as they are trying to do their best, being “our public servants,” spending our money wisely. It’s a tough job, but they applied, and we elected them.

Elected them to do what? I think we elected them, based on their campaign promises, to do a better job overseeing the running of Cape Coral, yet looking to us for added input, advice and suggestions. Do you feel this is happening? Are all of them listening to us? Are our concerns falling on deaf ears? Are all of them, really working on our behalf? Think about it!!

Do you hear more excuses, double talk and rhetoric, rather than solutions and actions? Hello? How many times can some council members change their minds? (UEP 6-7, 1-8) Can’t they make an educated decision and stick with it?

Do we all have to be in limbo because of indecisiveness? Continually flipping the “on/off switch” is unacceptable, unprofessional and absolutely shows no leadership ability. Remember, our lives are at stake, and our future is being held hostage.

Our mayor preaches about being positive and having solutions. That’s great. I believe the same, however, do not believe in solely getting information from the city manager and staff. I believe in research and finding out myself. If the city manager has all the right answers, and if we’re asked to speak to him on a continual basis, then I guess we don’t need a mayor nor a council. We’re good to go. Do we need to elect a mayor and three council members this fall? You tell me.
