Thoughts on recovery

To the editor:

Well, we are about two months out on our stimulus refund checks – no help, meantime.

Some people seem to be unaware that there will be no check for those unfortunates who made less than $9,000, since they have no federal tax liability.

Most of us still don’t know how much tax withholding reduction we can count on, or just how it will be determined.

Then, the folks who most need unemployment compensation (those who have out of work the longest) are having trouble getting anything at all. Various state rules around the country result in no-payment in some states, or even no-payment in other states, even when qualification has been previously established (bureaucratic decisions). I could understand some of that when state coffers had been drained; however, those larders have now been replenished. Go figure, guys!

And, some out there still don’t get it. If we don’t tackle this economic debacle fast ad hard, then there won’t be any grandchildren to call in the loans. (Not that they are going to have to worry about it anyway.)

As if the above weren’t enough, the big mortgage holders are now dragging their feet on establishing policies for re-financing the sneaky loans that they have out here.Postponements have gone from February, to M arch, to April, and now they say check again in late May. (Possible reason: What is the competition going to offer?) When those companies are ignoring is that if something isn’t done rather soon they and their customers will both lose, big time.

Of course, “tea parties” are within everyone’s rights – to lobby for or against anything. Unfortunately, the now occurring confabs have been hijacked by the radical conservatives – to push their own unpopular agendas.

On the up side, we are seeing cracks in the situation in some areas, and I’m confident that we will continue to witness further improvements, although it might take a year.
