Who’s running the show?
To the editor:
We need lower property taxes. Florida’s No. 1 priority is to fix the housing market. That will lead to an eventual recovery of the whole economy. It starts with housing. If people can’t buy houses they don’t move here. If they don’t move here then the economy stops growing. We have plenty of houses. We need to encourage people who are retiring to move here and they will if they can afford it and they can afford it if property taxes are not the horrendous burden they are now. Encourage people to buy the homes we have already built but do not encourage builders to build new ones and the economy will get better.
Please ask Senator Altman to schedule SB 0738 (1.35 percent property tax cap) for a vote in Committee.
Please ask Senator Atwater to lead the Senate in putting this ballot initiative before the voters THIS YEAR!
It is unacceptable that the Senate would raise taxes in a recession and worse that the Senate won’t let the Voters lower their taxes!
You are not letting the democratic process work when you refuse to release bills for votes in the legislature. That is as bad as the judges who legislate from the bench, also destroying the fundamental basis of a democracy, the right of people to vote.
