Too many taxes
To the editor:
I read the letter by Lynn Rosko listing all the taxes we the taxpayers already endure, along with the article “Cape Tea Party” canceled due to fear of fines.
Also concerning Lynn, which appeared in the March 28, 2009 issue of The Breeze, it most certainly confirms the concerns of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson when he voiced he same concerns as Lynn in one of his speeches; he said, “If not careful; the people would eventually be taxed in their comings and their goings, with their food and their drinks, their property and their shelters, and the fruits of their labor taken from them.” Exactly what Mrs. Rosko wanted to convey to us all, but, was scared off by the outrageous threats of our bureaucracy threatening her pocket book if she dared to protest the injustice of all the taxation with a “Tea Party.”
Good lord, how deep have we sunk into the swill of this outrage?
Is it really going to take an American “Storming of the Bastile” to route this attempt at our economic slavery?
Sad to say, the answer is probably “Yes.”
The idea of more taxation being invoked on all our utilities is an abomination and should be stopped on quickly by our city council.
The answer to our problems? Operate within budget, regardless of the consequences.
If that means layoffs in all departments or reduction in over bloated six figure salaries and benefits, them so be it.
Government has to learn to bite the bullet with no “if ands or buts” and, if it don’t “The Storming of that Bastile will not be all that far-fetched” and, hopefully “Atlas will not shrug.”
