Council meeting often uncivil
To the editor:
Did you attend the latest Cape Coral Council work-shop meeting on March 30? Did you perhaps watch it on TV? What did you think? Was it really a workshop meeting? Was anyone in control? Who dominated this meeting? The mayor? City council representatives? The city manager? Did you think Councilman Deile’s letter was very well researched and straight to the point? Was city manager, Terry Stewart, professional in his response regarding the letter? Do you think Mr. Steward lost “his cool” and “let it all hang out?” Should the city manager be reprimanded for making Concilman Deile eat a “whole humble pie?” (He was ill and not at the meeting) Should Councilman Brandt have eaten a “big piece of humble pie?” Served up by the city manager? Why are most representatives condoning the tongue-lashings given by Mr. Stewart? Did you hear Councilman Donnell admonish the city manager about the tongue lashings? Should the mayor also have said something? Was the Mayor, Jim Burch, right in chastising those council members who were making accusations, when in fact he was being accusatory himself? Is the mayor slapping himself on the back too much?
As I sat in the meeting, putting up with all the bologna, a song popped into my head, depicting my thoughts of the meeting. It goes like this:
Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way,
I can’t wait to look in the mirror cause I get smarter each day.
To know me is to respect me, I must be a heck of a man/woman
Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble, but I’m doing the best that I can.
I’ve changed a few words. I’m sure Mac Davis won’t mind. If you feel offended reading my article, join the group. You don’t think I felt offended sitting through the meeting?
