City should treat commercial, residential customers the same

It appears that there are still many things going on in Cape Coral that don’t make any sense. For example Home Depot received a big break in their charges for sewer and water. It appears the fees charged were construction costs from 1996 or for water which was a much lesser cost than 2006 when the construction was actually done. The construction cost in SW-4 for water was actually $ .4123 square foot while Home Depot paid $.1406 per square which is a price in line with 1996. Residents paid $1.00 per square foot for sewer while Home Depot paid $.4811 which is half of what the residents paid and a price in line with the assessments in 2001.

If one looks at the auditor general’s report finding number 10 it clearly states that the city revise its method to charge each property the proportionate cost of construction. Of course the city manager disagrees. The real travesty though is that our legislators will not do anything about this.

Keep in mind that when some one under pays the others must over pay in order to make up the shortfall.
