Government for the people? By the people?

To the editor:

We, the voters of Cape Coral “elected” seven city council representatives and one mayor. We elected these “eight public servants” to oversee the day to day operations of the city. True? We elected them because we believed their platforms and their promises to work together with us, the residents of Cape Coral, to make the city a better place to live for all of us. Some council members are fulfilling their promises, while others are still not getting it. Why is that? Is it the “I” factor? Shouldn’t it be the “we” factor? Is there an i in team? Hello! Aren’t we, the residents of Cape Coral the employer and the elected officials “our public servant?” “Researching”every issue that affects our daily lives, rather than relying on one source or one person for their information? According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, research is defined as careful, systematic study and investigation in some field of knowledge. Are all of our elected officials complying with Webster’s definition? You tell me. Are some of them having their own agenda, rather then listening to us? Don’t they realize that we, the people, are the city of Cape Coral? Without us, there is no city. We pay all the bills to keep things functioning. Every government employee is getting paid by us. Do you agree?

Why are we, the residents of Cape Coral, having elected our “public servants” and are the employer, condones tongue-lashing of almost every city council meeting? Not only from “some” council members, but also from the city manager.

When was the last time you had a job,and you crucified your employer? Hello? How long did it take before you were unemployed? Because someone has a title, does it authorize them to humiliate others and force them into submission?

Can’t we agree to disagree ina respectful, professional manner to our employer? Am I mad? Yes, I’m mad. I’m mad at the fact that the employer only gets sixty minutes of citizen input time per month. At three minutes each, only 20 employers can talk yet the employees can ramble on forever with no rebuttal. What’s wrong with this picture?? Hello?? Sounds to me like the employee is good for only one thing. “Pay the bills!” Don’t question any expenditures!Don;’t question the newest issue; “Revenue Stabilization and Diversification.”What is it?

It’s a Public Service Tax, yes tax for communications, for protection, street lighting etc. These items are now in your ad\valorem taxes and are tax deductible. These will (if passed) make them special assessments, and will give the appearance that you saved on your taxes. Get mad! E-mail and call your representatives. Remember, they are our public servants.
