Build and they will come

To the editor:

I am a newcomer to Cape Coral. I have noticed a common concern about bringing new commerce to Cape Coral.

The geographical location of Cape Coral is both a curse and a blessing. The location in one corner of the country eliminates the opportunity to be a national central distribution hub. However, the warm southern climate along the gulf coast with relatively undeveloped area along the shore north of Pine Island Road could provide great opportunity. If that area were rezoned for commercial/resort use and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers could be commandeered to build a beach area in this presently underutilized area, a highly desirable beach area ripe for resort development would result. I am confident that if it is built, they will come.

While being developed, there would be great construction work employment. Upon completion, resort employment would be in abundance as winter weary travellers would focus on this new destination. Ample road infrastructure is already in place to access the area. Commercial Real Estate tax dollars would be generated with minimal impact on city services. It’s a win, win, win for citizens’ employment needs, world traveler vacation needs, and Cape Coral tax revenue needs.

Jackpot!
