Take the school district at its word?

1 min read

To the editor:

At the most recent meeting of the Lee School Board, Superintendent Browder in responding to criticisms over his handling of monies responded by discussing the e-mail from Julie Nieminski, former internal auditor of the board by saying that according to Nieminski while potential of fraud exists none has occurred. He then declared that there was no fraud in his handling of district funds. By his statement all were to believe that all is well and all should believe him.

Lost in this declaration was the fact that this same man had just been recently seen on TV declaring that he had no problem deleting an ethics clause in his contract.

If a public official can publicly avow to have no ethics how can any taxpaying citizen trust him with their money and his word that there was no fraud? Without ethics can there be trust? If the four majority board members support the withdrawal of ethics can the public trust them as well? Is this the reason the education system of Lee County is in such trouble?
