Many thanks

Replying to a letter complaining about the change in pickup days in Cape Coral by Waste Management; about where we have to place our recycling boxes, trash containers and yard waste; and that we are asked to place the paper products in paper bags rather than plastic.
I had an opportunity to speak with a representative with Wheelabrator Technology, the technical division of Waste Management, who told me that by picking up all the waste on one day in specific areas it saves the city and taxpayers money (I personally find it easier). They ask us not to put paper in plastic bags because the plastic interferes with the process used dealing with thousands of pounds of paper each pickup.
I also suggest that when you go shopping you ask the supermarket to use paper bags, then you won’t have to buy paper bags, the market is happy to do so and it helps the ecology. After the holidays I finally made a New Year resolution to clean out the accumulation of many years of junk in the garage. When trash day came I lugged a huge pile of “stuff” to the curb and wondered if it would be picked up. I peeked out the window when the truck arrived and watched the worker pick up every single item quickly and neatly and, as usual, put the barrel and bin back where they belong.
I recently read an article regarding Waste Management’s help in clearing out trash in Cape Coral neighborhoods where houses had been foreclosed and abandoned. They provided huge trash barrels and picked up all trash, at no charge to the City of Cape Coral.
Thanks Waste Management.
