Change the boat ordinance

To the editor:

I watched with interest, the news on Wednesday. I agree with the man wanting to get the boat parking ordinance changed. The change should go a bit further to allow boats to be parked on the side of the house past the front house line. Many can’t or have trouble getting their boats and trailers into the back yard. I have already repaired the main water line into the house twice, which was broken backing my boat into the back yard. This ordinance was up for change a year or more ago and at the second reading citizens input RV parking had been added to the ordinance. I was outraged about that. The original ordinance as read never mentioned RVs.

Also on the news was the city’s answer to changing the ordinance. They said most boats are kept in the water and the number of boats on trailers was too small to change the ordinance. We that trailer our boats are the minority so it seems they believe. Someone needs to take a survey and show that there are more boats trailered than the city would lead you to believe. Even if the number is small, we that trailer boats should not be seen as second class citizens. Not everyone is on a canal. We are only looking for what we believe is the right thing for the city to do. Change the ordinance.
