Time for everyone to grow up
To the editor:
In response to “Long Live the Republicans,” an opinion by Jon Shudlick, I would like to inform the author of a few liberties he took with the facts.
While I tend to support local Republicans, nationally I always support Democrats. I consider myself not only a politically involved but an educated person, who views CNN and reads about politics.
The Georgia Senate election, won by seven points, was hardly a landslide. As for Mrs. Palin’s Miami performance, it only took a quick moment to view any nightly news or CNN to get Republicans’ response from the press conference to serve her selfish personality. As for the Republicans so-called “move to the center” most audiences have also “moved to the center.” If Republicans have want to win in these times, they need to move. Mr. Shudlick doesn’t have to like the president-elect. With such a landslide win in 2004, I can find a few Republicans that like George Bush or will admit voting for him. And what difference does it makes if blacks and Jews voted for the president-elect in such margins unless there is some problem with two American groups exercising their right to vote. Even John McCain stated that he felt he lost, due to the lack of the Hispanic vote.
Lastly, the writer named three political people without their middle names, but Hussein popped back up. It didn’t work then and not now. Most educated people understand an Arabic name is not a religious affiliation. Time for everyone to grow up and work to make this country and its citizens survive the problems we face. Let Mrs. Palin go back and run her secessionist state. And let the president-elect fill his cabinet with people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds.
