Council serves the public, not the other way around

To the editor:

The current Cape Coral council has been a conglomeration of confusion, dissension, and ineffectiveness. If it wasn’t so sad, it might be appropriate to characterize the antics as being part of a traveling circus.

If this group had been appointed, instead of elected, there is no doubt that dismissal would be forth coming. So how can we help to correct the situation, and make things better?

I believe, we’ve created the monster…and here’s my suggestion to begin the fix. We need to reverse the layout of the dais and the speakers stand. By seating the council people in an elevated position, looking down on the citizens and the citizen speaker, we’ve blown their minds and given them the feeling that they are pontificators who need not control their arrogance and pomposity.

Factually, they have been hired to perform in the role of a public servant, the citizens are the employers and they are the employees. By elevating the speakers stand we send a message to the council member employees that their job is to serve in a respectful and productive way and anything less is unacceptable.

Council members need to make sure that their hats fit their heads daily or resign.
