Way to go, Sal

To the editor:

While we here in Cape Coral are busying ourselves with looking for a new mayor, I wonder how many among us took the time to read the letter “A Tale of Two Cities” by Sal Grosso which appeared in both The Breeze and the News-Press on Nov. 8 of 2008?

Mr. Grosso, in his comparison of the size and financing condition of Port St. Lucie and our paradise of Cape Coral, points out much that needs looking into and certainly could stand one hell of a lot of rectifying.

If we are both around the same size of 160,000 peons, how come in the year 2007 they spend $62 million out of their general fund to pay for their basic city service, while we ante-ed up $149 million for our same city services?

Seems something smells.

And the pension monies, we go for $9.5 million in 2007, while Port St. Lucie goes for $26 million in the same year. Quite a spread wouldn’t you say? How come?

That idea that Mr. Grosso puts forth to have the News-Press and The Breeze write an instigative report of comparison of both cities and see where the heads have to be chopped to make right the entire mess, and, you gotta admit it is one mess.

And, as for Mr. Grosso, he has been one font of information for our citizenry for years. He’s most certainly make a great mayor. Why he doesn’t take the shot, I do not know.

Whatever, his wisdom is worth taking note of. Thanks, Sal.
