To the editor:

It was getting dark, just before 6 o’clock this time of year. We were driving south on Del Prado Boulevard when I noticed the Downtowner Car Wash South East marquis flashing, “Vets Free Today.” I asked Phyllis, did you see that, a free car wash for veterans? Let’s turn around and see about this. Sure enough it was a free car wash for veterans and I didn’t even have to show them my life membership card to Am vets Post 81 on old 41 in North Fort Myers.

Now this was not just an exterior wash, it was the real deal; inside, outside, vacuum, windows, and even the new car smell freshener.

I called my brothers in Minnesota and Wisconsin and a friend in San Antonio and they weren’t aware of any free car wash for veterans on Veteran’s Day.

Yes, that free car wash was a nice little recognition a nice little remembrance, a really nice thought.
