Johnston inspires young voters
To the editor,
Carla Johnston is the former mayor of Sanibel and is now running as an independent for Lee County Commissioner. Being only in my 20s, politics and campaigns usually aren’t on the top of my list of priorities. From a young viewpoint most politicians want to please the older community, and have the same old approach that isn’t working anymore for Lee County. As a FGCU student and listening to what Carla had to say first hand, she is the candidate of the young people. She has a fresh new outlook on our economy and wants make jobs available now to provide growth for our local community.
Being an orphan from the age of 13 Carla Johnston has had to make it on her own. It’s from that experience that she has learned to be good with stretching a dollar and being resourceful. An example of this is how her campaign isn’t about having campaign money coming from donations with strings attached; instead her campaign is about people passing her name on through word of mouth.
Carla is not only about the working people and our economy; she is also about helping to protect our environment. As chairperson of the Sanibel Planning Commission, Carla oversaw the updating/protection of land use plans. Unlike most politicians who are all talk, Carla is all action. Instead of nagging about pollution in Lake Okeechobee or the Caloosahatchee River, Carla took charge and led the efforts for change. She persuaded leaders to restrain releases of polluted water into our water ways, and helped develop other alternatives to store the polluted water.
Carla Johnston is the official who breaks the mold and the stereotype of most politicians. For more information on this innovative take charge leader please check out Carla’s Web site www.carlajohnstoncampaign.com.
