Mayoral appointment not fair to voters
To the editor:
For the city council to pick a mayor to complete the present mayor’s term is not fair to the people. A special election should be held which is the Democratic way. Any decision made by a mayor hand-picked by the Council will be suspect. I do realize that the mayor, in all likelihood, will have the best interest of the city at heart. On the other hand, a picked mayor is not the representative of the people without a vote.
If any council member is picked for the position, then their seat becomes vacant. Is the council going to pick someone for that position that was not duly elected by the people of that district? This goes against the principles of Democracy where it is one person one vote.
We the residents should demand a special election for the mayor’s position.
