Barack Obama speech raised concerns
To the editor:
Watching the Democratic Convention on Thursday, Aug. 28, on CNN raised a few concerns with me. I am a registered Republican in Florida, although I vote for the person that I feel will do a better job. I supported Obama and I gave donations to his campaign earlier this year, but after watching his acceptance speech, I am now a strong John McCain supporter. I know that some Democrats will say that I’m flip-flopping with my decision and my response to them is, if Obama can do it, why can’t I?
The reason why I have decided to support McCain is because I was sickened by how the Democratic Committee wasted money on such an event. When I first began watching the event, I honestly thought I was watching a World Wrestling Entertainment Pay Per View event. There were huge screen TVs, a huge elaborate stage, live music and bands, my favorite pyrotechnics and fireworks. Ladies and gentlemen of America, all these bells and whistles cost a lot of money. As a supporter of Obama’s, I was quite disgusted with the way my money was spent on unnecessary things. If the Obama campaign has so much extra money lying around I could have suggested so many different ways to spend it such as charities, or other non-profit organizations, instead of creating an event that even Vince McMahon would have been proud of. This, in my opinion, was an embarrassment to the Democratic Committee. Obama has stated in the past the Republicans do not know how to spend money wisely. Obama needs to look in the mirror or watch his speech again and see the wasted money spent on such an event.
I heard many anchormen commenting on Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech. I agree that the “I had a dream speech” was a very moving and powerful speech. Did you notice that Dr. Martin Luther King did not have fireworks, a huge stage and big screen TVs? Without all the bells and whistles, his speech, still to this day, is memorable. Was Obama afraid that his speech may not be as strong so he needed something to distract people’s attention?
I contacted the Colorado Democratic Committee regarding this unnecessary spending and I was given a typical political answer. “The event was all free,” this is what the gentleman said when I questioned the cost of this event. Clearly he is not telling the truth and if this gentleman is representing the Democratic Committee, God help the United States of America. I told this gentleman how I felt about the wasted money and his response was “well, 80 million people saw the speech,” and I wonder how many other Americans saw the wasted money. Typical politics — it’s OK to do stupid things as long as it looks good.
I have been calling the Democratic committees around the country and surprisingly no one wants to comment or answer my questions. I have even told the volunteers that I have financially supported Obama, and they still have no comment.
Here’s another reason why you can’t trust the Democrats. During the campaign between Obama and Clinton earlier this year, Bill Clinton stated that Obama is not yet ready for the White House. Although, during his speech at the Democratic Convention, Bill Clinton said that Obama is ready for the White House. Bill Clinton clearly cannot make up his mind. Remember when he stated that he did not have sexual relations with that woman? Well that turned out to be a lie. Bill Clinton will only say what best benefits him when given an opportunity.
Finally, Democrats need to stop comparing John McCain to George Bush. I keep hearing comments that John McCain would be four more years of the same. This simply is not true. John McCain will make his decisions on his own. John McCain will seek opinions of people who have strong knowledge of the issue that arises. John McCain is not George Bush nor does John McCain support all of George Bush’s decisions. If my memory is right, even Hillary Clinton (a Democrat) voted to take military action against Iraq. If Democrats are going to compare McCain and Bush simply because they are both Republicans, then let’s compare Saddam Hussein and Barack Hussein Obama because the both have the same names. Would this be fair? Of course not.
Ladies and gentlemen, please don’t be fooled by Obama’s superstar appearance. Look deeper and you will agree that John McCain is the best choice to take the White House.
