Politicians should be accountable for promises made
To the editor:
Political posturing. What does it actually mean?
To me it means that the speaker is disingenuous and believes that the audience is simply stupid. Instead of permitting politicians to spout a litany of unintended promises, we need a system whereby when, during a campaign, a candidate makes promises to do certain things when he is elected, those declarations become an absolute contract with the voters.
That’s right, a firm contract, in writing, that if not fulfilled upon election the candidate becomes guilty of a fraudulent act and is subjected to arrest and prosecution.
We need to end the silly days where candidates stand before gullible cheering crowds, say whatever they think the dopes want to hear, and then, when elected, they do whatever they please. It’s not a strange phenomena that politicians “respect ratings” have sunk to all-time lows.
We need to consider the term political posturing as being absolute lies and punish the perpetrators in the same way we would discipline any/fraudulent act.
Let’s have them sign the contracts, expect the appropriate action, and hold their feet to the fire.
