Janet E. Walters

Janet E. Walters, age 83 of Kempner, TX, died at 5:36am on Friday, May 5, 2023 at a nursing facility in Lampass, TX after a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 8, 1939 in Wakarusa, IN to Norris and Hazel (Martin) Secor. On February 2, 1958 Janet married Richard G. Walters in Nappanee. While Richard was in the Army, they moved from place to place for many years before settling in Nappanee from 1975-1984. In 1984 they moved to Kentucky, before later moving to Florida. While living in Nappanee Janet worked as a teller at First National Bank and she was also active in both the Nappanee VFW and American Legion Post 154 Women’s Auxiliaries. Janet’s favorite thing to do was walk the beach and collect sea shells. She then enjoyed blessing her family and friends with crafts she would hand make with the shells she collected. Janet also loved to read. She also enjoyed organizing get togethers and hosting family and friends. Most of all she adored her family and loved visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard Walters of Kempner, TX; 3 children: Bruce J. (Angela) Walters of Kempner, TX, Jeri (Kevin) Hand of Milford, IN, and Kris D. (Christine) Walters of Edwardsburg, MI; 9 grandchildren: Clint Andrews, Desiree (J.D.) Adams, Tatyana Hand, Travis (Brandy) Walters, Ashley (OBrian) Myers, Erica (Sam) Burnett, Nicholas (Sarah) Bialecki, and Marcus Bialecki; 11 great grandchildren; 5 sisters: Delores Baker of Ft. Myers, FL, Marlene (Dean) Gilkerson of Ligonier, IN, Kathlene Thibos of Beverly Hills, FL, Sherry (Dave) Chapman of Chattanooga, TN, Bonnie (Tom) Kapla of Ft. Myers, FL; 4 brothers: Royal “Zeke” Secor of Plainfield, IN, Larry (Jan) Secor of Newton, KS, Glen (Karen) Secor of South Bend, IN, and Wendell (Theresa) Secor of Fort Smith, AR. Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Caroline Walters; a granddaughter, Danielle Walters; and 2 brothers: Bruce and Cloyce “Corky” Secor.

Per Janet’s wishes, cremation will take place and a

visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on June 16, 2023 at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home in

Nappanee, IN. A Celebration of Life will begin at 6 pm with Pastor Dean Gilkerson officiating.
