Born in Hymera, IN (Sullivan Co.), January 27, 1934 to Donna and Archie Soughers. He died November 30, 2015 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL. He is survived by his wife Barbara Smetzer and daughter, The Rev Tara Soughers of Plainville, MA, son K. Richard of Plainfield, IN, stepchildren; Teresa (Joel) Smetzer-Hicks of Austin, TX; David Roger Smetzer (Tiffany) of St. Joseph, IL and Lisa Scott (Scott Brokaw) of Leesburg, VA. Grandchildren Ari Dehn and Gregory Dehn of Plainville, MA. He is also survived by brother Allen (Shirley) Soughers and sister Betty Kirby of Denver, CO. He was predeceased by a sister Pauline Archer of Terre Haute, IN.
Dr. Soughers was a graduate of The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 1961. He had a Veterinary practice in Mooresville, IN for 37 years. Dr. Soughers and Barbara retired to Cape Coral in 2004 and he worked at Eastside Animal Hospital for several years. Dr. Soughers was a missionary in Haiti. Dr. Soughers and Barbara were members of St. Johns Episcopal Church on Pine Island, FL. He was very much loved and appreciated by his clients and all who knew him.
Memoral service at St. Johns Episcopal Church on Pine Island, January 23rd at 2pm and memoral service at St. Marks in Plainfield, IN on February 20, 2016 at 10am. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church, 7771 Stringfellow Rd. St. James City, FL 33956. Indiana memorials may be made to St. Marks Episcopal Church, 710 East Buchanan St. Plainfield, IN 46168.
