Thelma May Gockenbach

Thelma May Gockenbach, 89, passed into her new life, Sunday, September 20, 2015 due to complications from Congestive Heart Failure and COPD at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral.

She was born to Forest and Sadie M Sullivan on September 13, 1926 in Clevelend, Ohio. Raised in Columbus, Ohio, Thelma worked as an insurance secretary after high school until she married Jack E Gockenbach, on March 1, 1947, after he returned from the South pacific, where he had been stationed as a Navy Seabee.

In 1976 they retired to Cape Coral. Thelma worked for many years at Cape Elementary School as a teachers assistant in Remedial Reading. She was an avid reader and so enjoyed her every Monday afternoon Knitting and Crocheting group.

Thelma will be remembered as a wonderful, loving wife and mother to Marcia and Marc and grandmother to Lindsey and Adam whom she cherished with all her heart.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack, and brother Forrest Sullivan. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Tom) Givens of Cape Coral, son, Marc (Jane) Gockenbach of Villa Hills, Ky., 2 grandchildren, Lindsey (Jake) of Pittsburg and Adam of Villa Hills, Ky. Thelma is also survived by her sister Ruth White of Crystal River, FL, sister-in-law, Phyllis Sullivan along with other family members, nieces and nephews and her many dear friends.

The family would like to thank all the nursing and hospital staff of Cape Coral Hospital 3-West for their never ending tentative care. Also to the ever compassionate care at Hope Hospice in her final days.

A memorial graveside service will be held at Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1630 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral, FL on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
