Phyllis Amy Lorraine Hawkins
Phyllis Amy Lorraine Hawkins, 82, of Cape Coral, took her final cruise on May 3rd after a brief illness. She leaves behind her loving husband of 35 years, Daniel Hawkins; son Michael Perkins and wife Christina of Minnetonko, MN; stepson Troy Hawkins and his wife Gretchen of Indianapolis, IN and sister Shiela Ward and brother, Victor Smith of Shirebrook, England. Phyllis is now joining her sisters, Merle Burton and Cynthia Reagan; son, Paul Smith; Glynis Perkins Vince and stepson Daniel A.O. Hawkins in heaven. Phyllis was born May 25, 1932, the daughter of the late Leslie Victor Smith and Charlotte Mold, in Shirebrook, England, where she endured the German fire bombings during the battle of Britain in WWII. She immigrated to Long Island, New York in 1963, later moving to California where she bonded with Dan, the love of her life and soul mate. Her varied professional life included stints at accounting and as a financial advisor for Bank of America. Her business acumen was instrumental in the success of her and Dans home business. She and Dan traveled extensively over the years, mostly to Europe, but her passion was for the sea. Together, they toured Bermusa, Nassau, the Cayman Islands as well as ports in South and Central America. On their way back home from each trip, she would wistfully intone: I cant wait for our next cruise. Phyllis was a staunch supporter of the Salvation Army, giving freely of her time. She was also a loyal member of the Cape Coral Red Hat Society, always giving precedence to the needs of others. The affection she felt for her three loyal King Charles Spaniels was unmatched. Monty, King Chalres and Kian still poke around the house, wistfully sniffing for her in reciprocation of that love. Services for her final cruise were held this past Saturday, May 9th. Condolences may still be sent to Coral Ridge Funeral Home at coralridgefuneralhome.com.
