John P. Kmetz
John P. Kmetz, 86, of Cape Coral died Saturday, April 30, 2011.
He was born in New York City in 1925 to John and Mary (Medvetz) Kmetz. He lived in Queens, N.Y., for many years. He worked for the New York Telephone Company for over 40 years. He retired in 1985 and moved to Cape Coral in 1992 from Colonia, N.J. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was member of the Elks Lodge # 2199 in Cape Coral. He enjoyed golfing, boating, woodworking and will be remembered for his infectious laugh and his love of time spent with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; three sons. John P. (Marianne) Kmetz and Richard J. Kmetz, both of Cape Coral, and Robert J. Kmetz of Moline, Ill.; five daughters, Christine (Edwin) Cornell of Youngsville, La., Mary Martin of Stuart, Fla., Lorraine Phelan of Clearwater, Fla., Anne Marie Kmetz of New Windsor, N.Y., and Catherine Kmetz of Barnegat, N.J.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patricia Kmetz; and two sisters, Helen and Louise.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, May 3, at St. Katherine Catholic Church in Cape Coral. Burial will take place at Long Island National Cemetery, with military honors.
The family celebrated his life with family and friends Monday evening at the Fuller Metz Funeral Home at 3740 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral.
