Marie L. Galante Assenzio
Marie L. Galante Assenzio, 103, of Cape Coral passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 16, 2011. She was born July 4, 1907, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the fourth of eight children born to Vincent and Vincenzia Ruotolo Bianchi. In 1926 she married Anthony Galante and together they had five children.
Mrs. Galante-Assenzio moved to Cape Coral in the fall of 1968 from Cleveland, Ohio. She has been a member of the Italian American Club of Cape Coral for over 40 years. She served as president of the Cape Coral Democratic Club. She was a parishioner at St. Andrew Catholic Church since 1968. She loved cooking and baking.
She is survived by her loving family, including her children, Richard (Barbara) Galante, Col. Leonard (Susan) Galante, USAF Ret., and Marilyn Galante (Kenneth) Schuman; 13 grandchildren, Diane Kozel, Michael (Robin) Galante, Roberta Galante, Tom (Kim) Galante, Lisa (Manuel) Sena, Laura (Michael) Hartman, Linda (Michael) Griffin, Leonard (Lisa) Galante Jr., Kenneth (Karen) Schuman Jr., Brian (Sandra) Schuman, Kimberly Schuman, Karen Schuman Barnes and Donna Schuman (Rejean) Germain; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way – Baby Ella.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Anthony M. Galante; son, Donald Galante; daughter, Dolores Regnone; grandsons, Richard Galante Jr. and Gregory Galante; great-grandson Timothy Clos; and her second husband of 18 years, Roswell T. Assenzio.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 S.W. Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral. Entombment will follow at Coral Ridge Cemetery.
