Richard Lee Hagy

Richard Lee Hagy, 64, of Cape Coral died unexpectedly March 17, 2011. He was born September 13, 1946 in Lynch, Ky. He received a B.A. from Georgetown College (Ky.) and M.A. from Union College (Ky.). As a linebacker for the Georgetown Tigers, he helped his football team win a national championship.

He began his professional career at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla. It was there where he met Nancy Hosier, whom he married in 1972. His passion for educating students never diminished. He served Lee County Schools for more than 30 years as teacher, coach and principal at Riverdale and Mariner High Schools, the Alternative Learning Center and Mariner Middle School, where he was named Principal of the Year.

He touched the lives of countless students and friends, but most important to Richard was his family. He was a loving husband and father and special “Papa” to his granddaughters. He was an avid golfer, devoted soccer dad and supported his family’s interests with enthusiasm.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Jodi (Tyran) Jacoby of Pine Island, Jami of Lake Wales and Jessi (James) Delgado of Kissimmee; his two granddaughters, Madilyn and Mallie; mother, Thelma Hagy; brothers, Charles and John; and sister. Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hagy.

Visitation at Messiah Lutheran Church in Cape Coral will be from 24 p.m., on Monday, March 21. A memorial service will follow at 4.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for a Richard Hagy Memorial Scholarship Fund which will be established for high school students in Lee County.
