Carolyne L. (Carrie) Harmon, 79, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral. She had been in failing health for the past several years. She was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Wharton) Dillings. She moved with her mother and sister, Charlyne to Kokomo, Ind., at the age of 12 and resided there for much of her life.

She met her future husband, Charles (Chuck) Harmon, during high school and they were married in 1950. They had two sons, Charles Steven Harmon, who died in 1950, and Roger A. Harmon of Cape Coral. She is survived by her sister, Charlyne Jewell of Kokomo, Ind., along with several nieces and nephews.

She was primarily a homemaker who loved helping others and did volunteer work for a number of charities over the years. She was always proud of the fact she worked and helped her husband obtain his engineering degree from Purdue University. She was an excellent seamstress and loved all forms of sewing and upholstery work. In her later years, she loved playing Mahjong on her computer and working crossword puzzles.

When Roger started his boat manufacturing business in 1985 in Sharpsville, Ind., she was very proud to be helping him in his new venture. She worked in the office and also helped set up the company’s upholstery department.

The Harmons retired to Cape Coral in 1990 upon Chuck’s retirement from General Motors. She loved the Florida weather and her citrus trees, and growing orchids. The annual Okoberfest celebration in Cape Coral was her favorite event.

Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
