Roland Joseph “R.J.” Powers, 75, of Cape Coral passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral. He was born April 28, 1935, in E. St. Louis, Ill., a son of Joseph L. and Norma Gamlin Powers, now deceased. He was a retired Mortgage Examiner with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He proudly served his country from 1954-1962 in the United States Air Force.

His favorite things included Diet Pepsi, pretzels, chocolate and games of chance. He had resided in Cape Coral since 2002 coming from Virginia.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Powers; his children, Michael Powers, Phillip Powers, Tom Sweeting, Michael Sweeting, Shanon Diehm and Susan Mahaffey; 13 grandchildren; and his three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ayden and Bryce. Also surviving is a special cousin, Walter Gamlin.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at Coral Ridge Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #8463 of Cape Coral.
