John Vincent Fickle

John Vincent Fickle, 70, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral. He was born Nov. 15, 1939, in Anderson, Ind., to Vincent John and Geneva Louise (nee Owens) Fickle. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1957. After graduation, he attended Purdue University before joining the Marine Corps on Feb. 2, 1959, when he served honorably until his discharge on Feb. 1, 1963.

He married Geraldine M. Connell in 1962. They had four children together.

On June 2, 1974, he married Julia C. (Hawkinson, McGriff) in Peoria, Ill. While living in Peoria, he worked for Born Paint Company from 1974 until January 1985. He moved to Monmouth, Ill., in 1985 and managed People’s Do-It center there until his retirement in the fall of 2001. At that time he and his wife moved to Cape Coral. After enjoying two years of landscaping his yard, he went to work part-time at Publix where he was employed for five years, working in the produce department for the last few years of that employment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; three sons, Brion O. (Donna) Fickle of Muncie, Ind., Marcus H. (Brenda) Fickle of Carmel, Ind., and Sean C. Fickle of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Mary (Kevin) Hamer of Remington, Ind.; two step-sons, Lloyd W. (Stephanie) McGriff of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Emmett G. McGriff of Panama City Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He will be most remembered by the love he shared with his friends and family.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 11, at 2 p.m., at Fuller Cape Coral Funeral Home-Cremation Service, 3740 Del Prado Blvd., S. Cape Coral.
