Rosemary Olson

Rosemary Olson, 54, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009. She was born Aug. 3, 1955, in New Haven, Conn., to Frank A. Piccolo Jr. and Rosemary Piccolo.

She graduated from the High School in the Community – an early charter school – in 1974. She attended Post Junior College in Waterbury, Conn., and received an Associate of Science degree in recreational leadership. Subsequently, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn.

She married Robert Olson, a sailor on the USS Jack, a submarine based out of New London, Conn., at the Shepherd of the Sea Chapel in Groton, Conn., on June 5, 1982. As a Navy wife, she moved frequently according to her husband’s assignments.

In 1987 at the end of her husband’s enlistment, they moved to Acton, Mass. There she taught preschool children at Children’s World. She moved to Merrimack, N.H., in 1991 where she worked at the YWCA and then the YMCA over the next 10 years.

She moved to West Chicago, Ill., in 2005 and continued teaching preschool children at Kiddy Place Learning Center until November 2007, when she moved to Cape Coral to help care for her ailing father. While in Florida she worked at Family of Faith Preschool and Daycare as a preschool teacher as well as a part-time after-school teacher for Providence Christian School.

She became a member of Cape Coral Assembly of God Church in 2009. She loved traveling and went on cruises with her husband. She enjoyed fine dining and loved her cat, Eddie. She enjoyed crafts and loved planning events. She especially enjoyed family gatherings.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; mother-in-law, Barbara (Harry) Eichman; sister-in-law, Gail (Jeff) Lederer; nephews, Mathew and David Lederer; stepmother-in-law, Marion Olson; mother and stepfather, Rosemary and James Mascia; brothers, Frank (Sarah) Piccolo and Joseph (Bethany) Piccolo; niece and nephew, Colleen and Joe Piccolo Jr.; sister, Mary (Kim) Krell; nieces and nephews, Kevin Krell, Kerry and Joann Krell, Michele Krell, Nikki and Tommy Park; great-niece, Naphtili Park; aunt and uncle, Chris and Raymond Moulter; and cousins, Larry and Charles Moulter.

A wake will be held from 6-8 p.m. today. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cape Coral Assembly of God, 717 Skyline Blvd. She will be placed in her final resting place at 9 a.m. Monday at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
