Ruth “Ruthie” M. Cerrina
Ruth “Ruthie” M. Cerrina, 92, of Gulf Coast Village in Cape Coral, died Sunday Oct. 18, 2009. She was born in 1917, in Paterson, N.J.
She married Richard in 1936 and they spent 73 wonderful years together. She lived in Paterson most of her life and moved to Florida in 1982.
She loved swimming in the ocean, no matter what the ocean temperature was. She swam daily in her pool and taught water aerobics to all the seniors in whatever adult community she resided in.
She was an inspiration to all who knew her and lived life to its fullest.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of Cape Coral; daughter, Joyce (Robert) Karaitis of Cape Coral; sister, Jean Brady of New Jersey; grandchildren, Karen Cohill of Cape Coral and Robert Karaitis of Jacksonville; and great-grandchildren, Megan, Daniel, Michael, Robbie and Alex.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Ann Harring; and siblings, John, Emily and Lilian.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Metz Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Lee County YMCA Swimming Endowment Fund, 1360 Royal Palm Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33919.
