Viola ‘Vi’ Mabel Schuman
Viola “Vi” Mabel Schuman, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, in Cape Coral, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was born April 13, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio, the fourth of five children born to David and Theresa Faix.
In 1938, she married Lawrence Schuman. Together they had four children, Judith, Kenneth, Janet and Kevin.
She moved to Cape Coral in 1970 from Highland Heights, Ohio. She served as president of the Cape Mates, the women’s auxiliary for the Cape Coral Power Squadron, and was a parishioner at Saint Andrew Catholic Church since 1970.
She also volunteered at the Cape Coral Hospital. She loved gardening, crafts, sewing, cooking and baking.
Prior to moving to Cape Coral, she worked as the manager of the Registrar’s at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence L. Schuman; daughter, Janet C. Aebie; sisters, Lillian Faix, Madeline Faix and Eleanor Smythe; and brother, Donald Faix.
She is survived by her children, Judith M. (Tom) Sheahan, Kenneth L. (Marilyn) Schuman Sr. and Kevin H. (Carol) Schuman; grandchildren, Bradley (Donna) Sheahan, Kenneth L. (Karen) Schuman Jr., Brian (Sandy) Schuman, Brent (Megan) Sheahan, Larry Aebie, Bridget (Jim) Pietrowicz, Timothy (Julie) Aebie, Kimberly Schuman, Brooke (Todd) Danciak, Karen Schuman Barnes, Jeff Aebie, Donna (Rejean) Germain, Matthew (Nikki) Schuman, David Schuman, Meghan Schuman and Brent Schuman; and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
A memorial was held Sept. 28 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home on Chiquita Boulevard. A Mass of Christian burial was held Sept. 29 at Saint Andrew Catholic Church.
The family asks that donations be made in her name to Hope Hospice of Cape Coral.
