Connie Christensen

Connie Christensen, 84, of Cape Coral, died Saturday, June 20, 2009. She was born April 22, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Anthony and Nancy (Malvasso) Castagna.

She attended schools in Norwalk, Conn. On Dec. 26, 1964, she married the love of her life, Verne Christensen, in Connecticut. They celebrated 42 years of marriage prior to his death June 24, 2007.

During their well-traveled life, the couple moved 26 times. She has called Norwalk, Conn.; Boston; Columbus, Ohio; Korea; Japan; Turkey and Greece home.

Over the course of her career, she was employed as an executive assistant, civilian employee for the 8th United States Army while living in Korea and partner in her husband’s engineering consultant business.

Devoted to all members of her family, she was a conduit for keeping her family connected. She was a loyal friend and loved to host dinner parties for her friends. Always politically active, she enjoyed serving on election campaign committees.

She was a contemporary woman, independent thinker and committed volunteer. She was a faithful member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and volunteered at Holt Children’s Services while living in Korea.

Surviving are her stepsons, Chris (Sylvia) Christensen of Massachusetts and Guy (Sherri) Christensen of Wisconsin; stepgrandchildren, Erica (Keith) Menor of California, Zack (Kora) Christensen of Wisconsin and Adam (Karen) Christensen of Wisconsin; six great-stepgrandchildren; sisters, Mary Matro of Connecticut and Catherine Chiarolanza of Texas; brothers, Michael (Helen) Castagna of Connecticut and Pat (Rosalie) Castagna of Florida; sisters-in-law, Catherine Castagna of Connecticut and Edith Simons of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends worldwide.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Castagna; and brothers-in-law, Philip Matro of Connecticut and Robert Simons of Wisconsin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of The Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2224 45th St., Kenosha, Wis. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Racine, Wis. Visitation will be held from 910 a.m. Friday at the church.
